Legend has it that the diamond was stolen centuries ago from a sacred Hindu temple, where it once adorned the statue of a goddess. From that moment, misfortune seemed to follow whoever possessed it.

Among its ill-fated owners were King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, who famously lost their heads during the French Revolution. Later came Russian prince Ivan Kanitovsk, assassinated not long after acquiring it. And perhaps most tragically, American heiress Evalyn Walsh McLean, whose life was plagued by sorrow: she lost two of her children and died young aged 60, still in possession of the cursed stone.

Over the centuries, the Hope Diamond passed through many hands, each story darker than the last. Today, it rests safely behind glass at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.- where it can’t cause any more chaos!
