Handled by people who know what to look for

Behind every piece is our in-house team of experts, many of whom have been with us for decades. Their knowledge isn’t just technical; it’s instinctive.

They know exactly what to look for, from the quality of a gemstone to the craftsmanship of a setting. Every item is carefully inspected, cleaned, and prepared before it reaches you, ensuring it arrives in exceptional condition, ready for its next chapter.

Buying pre-owned jewellery isn’t just about finding something beautiful; it’s about discovering something with character, history, and individuality.

And with the right guidance, it can also be one of the smartest ways to shop for luxury.

A beautiful piece should feel considered, personal and ready to be worn again.

The benefits

Why buy pre-owned fine jewellery?

One of the biggest advantages of shopping pre-owned jewellery is the sheer variety available. Unlike buying new pieces — where you might find rows of near-identical designs in the window — pre-owned jewellery offers true individuality.

01

More individuality

Each piece is unique. From unusual gemstone cuts to rare or lesser-seen stones, you’re far more likely to find something that feels personal and distinctive.

02

A wider range of eras

At Charles Fish, this variety is brought together in one place, making it easy to explore different styles, eras, and materials without having to search far and wide.

03

Beautiful materials

Pre-owned collections often span decades, meaning you’ll find everything from 9ct gold through to 22ct, and occasionally even fine gold pieces with a 999 purity.

04

Timeless design

From signet rings to traditional sovereign rings, enduring styles remain as relevant today as ever, while vintage pieces can offer details no longer widely produced.

05

Fresh pieces every week

At Charles Fish, we’re constantly refreshing our collection, with around 50 new pieces arriving every single week. From rings and necklaces to bracelets and beyond, there’s always something new to discover.

Value

Exceptional value for money

One of the most compelling reasons to choose pre-owned jewellery is the value it offers. When buying new, part of the cost reflects design, branding, and retail mark-ups.

With pre-owned pieces, those initial costs have already been absorbed, meaning you can often purchase a higher-quality item for the same budget, or simply get more for your money.

Engagement rings

If you’re looking for something truly special that stands out from standard high-street designs, pre-owned is an excellent option. You’re more likely to find a ring that feels unique, with superior craftsmanship or larger stones for your budget.

Designer names

For those who appreciate designer names, pre-owned jewellery can offer rare opportunities to find pieces no longer available. Occasionally, jewellery from renowned brands such as Stephen Webster, Tiffany & Co. or Dior becomes available.

Sustainability

A more sustainable choice

Sustainability is becoming increasingly important in the world of luxury, and pre-owned jewellery offers a meaningful way to shop more consciously.

By choosing a piece that already exists, you’re helping to reduce the demand for new mining — an industry that can have a significant environmental impact.

Pre-owned jewellery doesn’t require new resources to be extracted or additional manufacturing processes. Instead, it gives new life to something that has already been created, making it a naturally circular and sustainable option.

What to look for when buying pre-owned fine jewellery

If you’re new to pre-owned jewellery, you might wonder what to look out for — but this is where buying from a trusted retailer makes all the difference.

At Charles Fish, every piece is carefully assessed by our in-house experts before it’s ever offered for sale. Each item is thoroughly inspected to ensure it meets our standards for quality and condition.

  • Stones are checked for security and brilliance.
  • Settings are examined for durability.
  • Every piece is professionally cleaned so it looks its best.
  • Higher-value diamond pieces are sent to the Birmingham Assay Office for independent inspection.
  • Diamonds are assessed based on the four Cs: clarity, colour, cut and carat weight.
  • Hallmarking is checked to confirm metal purity and authenticity.

We will never sell a piece without proper hallmarking.

Hallmarking is an essential aspect. A hallmark is your guarantee of the metal’s purity and authenticity. If a piece does not already carry a hallmark, it will be assessed and stamped accordingly.

At Charles Fish, we use our sponsor’s mark, FBG — Fish Brothers Group — giving you confidence in the quality and authenticity of your jewellery.

The final rule

Above all: choose what you love

While there are many practical benefits to buying pre-owned jewellery — value, sustainability, and variety — there’s one factor that matters above all else: how the piece makes you feel.

Jewellery is deeply personal. It’s something you wear every day, something that becomes part of your story.

Whether it’s a classic design that will never go out of style or a bold, unusual piece that reflects your individuality, the most important thing is that it resonates with you.

Pre-owned fine jewellery also carries the potential to become an heirloom. These pieces have already stood the test of time, and with the right care, they can continue to be worn and loved for generations to come.

But they’re not just for safekeeping — jewellery is meant to be worn, enjoyed, and lived in.

Find the piece that feels like yours

Whether you’re searching for an engagement ring, a meaningful gift, or simply something that catches your eye, trust your instincts. If you love it, that’s what truly matters.
