So what gives it that iconic purple glow? Tiny traces of iron, plus natural radiation from the surrounding rock, work together deep underground to create shades ranging from soft lilac to rich royal violet. The deeper the colour, the more prized the stone.
Amethyst grows inside volcanic rock, forming sparkling crystals in hollow cavities called geodes. Over time — and we mean millions of years — mineral-rich fluids slowly build the crystals layer by layer.
